I haven't updated my blog in a while so I am going to record the events that have happened since I last posted.
July 15th
Today I decided that Woody easily gets bored by riding in the round pen, and even sometimes just riding in the pasture, so I decided to liven things up and take him outside to play. I tacked him up with his saddle and put the 22-foot line on him and off we went to our little playground. I set up a 3-barrel jump, a cone, and a stand alone barrel to play with. I soon figured out, when hes not stuffing his face with the lush grass, he loves playing outside. He gets very animated when hes on a circle, and for some reason LOVES this one hill and actually like to run up it during traveling circle game! We did lots of change of direction (which he is getting very good at) and went lots of different places while playing the Circling Game (#5) to try to keep him interested, and it seemed to work. We also did lots of driving from zone 3 "put your nose on that object" kind of games, which he seemed to really enjoy. Once I thought he was prepared, I got his hackamore on and mounted up. We rode around the fence mainly and where we had been playing and he seemed fairly focused and having fun. I didn't really ask him to do anything (except keep his face out of the grass), we just walked around for a little bit, doing the moseying exercise from his back. He posed for a couple of pictures, and then I decided to call it a day. He had a really great session, and he and Charlotte seemed to handle being separated pretty well.
Things to work on: ways to keep his face out of the grass without being rude and snatching his head up all the time.
