Today was a weather shocker: 63 degrees and sunny. This is ending the week in which school was canceled for a day due to wintery conditions (that didn't end up happening). Anyways, my aunt is in town, and we picked this day to go and play with the horses. They went out and haltered both of the horses and groomed them while I helped my dad with some chores. Then, I came out, snapped my 22 foot line on him, and headed out. In general, he was having some respect problems, but it got better when I finally got 2 laps of the circling game without him ducking his head down to eat at a trot. We moved on, did some Stick to Me, up some hills, around some trees, and went down the drive a bit. He was acting a bit cocky and slow in his response, and looking back I probably didn't handle it the right way. I would just go right to a phase three in my asking, which probably led to more dullness in his aids. Oh well. When you know better you do better I guess. Anyways, it was a pretty good session. We finished it by going in the hayfield in which Woody showed a surprising longing to run around more. In the future, I believe that would be the place to practice getting good with my 45 foot line and getting him confident at the canter because it is very open.
Also, my dad and I walked through our woods today and I decided that at some point this summer or next school year, I will begin to "renovate" the woods into trails that we can ride on. We have a part of the Great Wagon Road in our property and even a small creek. I think it will definitely lead to some fun times.
