So yesterday was a pretty cool day. I was surprised by my mom to find that I was getting to skip school on Tuesday to go and audit a Harry Whitney clinic! Terrie went with us and we had a great time, getting a new outlook on Natural Horsemanship. His philosophy is similar to Parelli, and he is very easy to understand and entertaining to watch and listen to. He was in Montpelier for a clinic, and there were several attendees, including Tom Moates, whom I knew from his book I read about him discovering natural horsemanship. Harry worked with several horses and basically worked at liberty, online, and horseback with them. His main idea is very simplistic and basically teaches how to get and keep a horses attention in a positive way while teaching them to become lighter and more responsive. He really strives to get a horse to a place where he feels safe in his leader and confident in his decisions as the leader. It was really interesting to watch how he approached the horses and see how much he cared about the horse and seeing the issue through the horses eyes. He did a really great job and the clinic was actually combined with a Bible camp, so it was neat how much Scripture and analogies they made between God and man and the human and horse. It was a really fun day and I really enjoyed listening to him and learning more. It was really cool because Tom Moates horse, Niji, really reminded me of my Woody with how he acted, looked, snorted, and responded.
